City Council Leader honoured to be invited to national Festival of Remembrance
The Leader of Worcester City Council has been invited to mark this year’s Remembrance weekend in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen.
Councillor Adrian Gregson says he is honoured to be joining local representatives of the Royal British Legion at the Festival of Remembrance at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
He said: “It will be a great honour to witness the Worcester and Worcestershire county standards of the Royal British Legion being marshalled before The Queen.
“The Festival of Remembrance is an event I have always found to be both powerful and poignant when I have watched it on television.
“I am proud to represent Worcester at this important act of remembrance for the many who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedom. I have no doubt it will be a moving and memorable evening.”
Cllr Gregson will be joining around 20 Worcestershire members of the Royal British Legion in London for the Festival on the evening of Saturday, November 12. County standard bearer Derrill Green will be taking part in the Festival, parading the Worcestershire standard during the opening of the event.
Cllr Gregson added: “Sadly, attending this important event in London means that, for the first time in many years, I will not be able to join the Remembrance Sunday parade and service at Worcester Cathedral or the service in St John’s Cemetery later the same day in memory of Woodbine Willie.
“On Remembrance Sunday and throughout the weekend I will be thinking of the many brave local men and women who have lost their lives in conflict.”
Cllr Geoff Williams will be representing Cllr Gregson at the Cathedral service on November 13. Cllr Joy Squire will be taking his place at the St John’s Cemetery service.
