Gheluvelt Park wins 2016 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence
Worcester’s popular Gheluvelt Park has received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence for the first time. This is the second accolade it has received in the last 12 months, with members of the public also voting Gheluvelt as one of the top three favourite parks in the UK for the Fields in Trust national awards in December.
Now in its sixth year, Certificate of Excellence celebrates places that have earned great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor over the past 12 months. Certificate of Excellence recipients include hotels, restaurants and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.
“We know how much residents and visitors value Worcester’s parks and open spaces, and we are therefore incredibly proud to have received this accolade from TripAdvisor,” says Cllr Jabba Riaz, Cabinet Member for Clean, Green and Leisure Services at Worcester City Council.
“It is testament to all the hard work our parks team puts in to ensure the park is an attractive and safe place throughout the year. One of this Cabinet’s priorities will be to ensure these high standards can be maintained in the long term, so that our parks will be protected for future generations to enjoy.”
Over 950,000 people visited the Park over the last 12 months. In 2017, the City Council will be investing £250,000 in new facilities for it. This follows the major £1.4m makeover in 2010, with a Heritage Lottery Fund award paying for a specially commissioned war memorial feature, new play area, refurbished bandstand and Splashpad.
The Splashpad, due to re-open later this month, features jets, sprays and fountains which feed in to a central stream and pools. It can attract up to 2,000 visitors per day to the park in the peak summer season.
"With the Certificate of Excellence, TripAdvisor honours venues that have consistently received strong praise and ratings from travellers”, said Heather Leisman, Vice President of Industry Marketing, TripAdvisor.
“This recognition helps travellers identify locations that regularly deliver great service. TripAdvisor is proud to play this integral role in helping travellers feel more confident in their booking decisions.”
The Certificate of Excellence accounts for the quality and quantity of reviews submitted by travellers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period. To qualify, a venue must maintain an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
