Loads of half-term fun on offer at Love Worcester Heritage Festival
There’s a huge variety of fun and engaging activities to look forward to during half term week (18 to 26 February), at a range of historic locations and museums in Worcester.
22 activities will be held at twelve venues during the city’s Love Worcester Heritage Festival, an annual event which showcases 2,000 years of Worcester’s history, creativity and culture.
There are opportunities to relive key moments in history, get crafty, learn about the human heart and experience new tastes and smells over the nine-day Festival.
The Festival will be started with a two and half hour bell peal from Worcester Cathedral and St Martin’s in the Cornmarket.
Highlights include:
Living History at the Commandery, Greyfriars House & Garden and Tudor House Museum
Re-enactors will help to bring over 2,000 years of history to life in three venues on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February. Full details at http://www.visitworcestershire.org/worcester/love-worcester.aspx
Dissection of a heart by The Infirmary at University’s St John’s Campus
Falling in love is blamed on the heart. This is a rare opportunity to dissect a pig‘s heart with tuition, and to learn some biology and history about this organ. Suitable for ages 6 and over. Sessions on Thursday 23 February. Must book at bit.ly/TheInfirmarydissection
Love Medicine – George Marshall Medical Museum
How did they treat patients 200 years ago? Check out the death masks of hanged criminals and the Victorian amputation chair. Monday 20 – Frl 24 February. Free entry – for full details, go to www.medicalmuseum.org.uk
Craft activities for children
Worcester’s Hive, the Cathedral, the Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum and Tudor House Museum are also hosting a range of craft activities throughout the week.
There’s plenty on offer for adults during the Love Worcester Festival too, including a chance to have ceramic pieces valued at the Museum of Royal Worcester; a performance by the King Lear – Pop Up Theatre in St. Swithin’s Church, and an new exhibition on King Henry VIII’s older brother, Arthur, in the Cathedral.
