Still time to enter fabulous 2017 Worcester Show!
There is still time to enter the 2017 Worcester Show – the popular annual event which celebrates the creativity and green fingered skills of local people, and which takes place in Gheluvelt Park on Sunday 13 August.
There are over 120 competition classes to enter at this year’s Show, ranging from growing giant vegetables to displaying flowers and floral decorations, creating handicrafts and photography, baking and modelling.
“The Show celebrates the amazing creativity of local people, and is a really fun day out for the whole family. If gardening isn’t your thing, there are many artistic and creative classes on offer too. Enthusiasm is the only quality you need to enter!” says Gerry Leith, Chairman of the Worcester Show committee.
Categories photographers can enter include best black and white photo, an amusing shot with caption, and a photo of a Worcestershire landmark.
The judge for the photography section, John Burrows, says: “What will I be looking for? Ideally, pictures that are well composed, in focus where they need to be, have lighting that adds interest and mood to the image.
“We want images which are not just record shots, but show subjects photographed maybe from a different angle, and last but not least, pictures that have a WOW! factor. If all that sounds daunting – don’t worry – just have a go!
There are lots of helpful hints and tips for photography entrants on the Show website athttp://www.worcestershow.org.uk/exhibitors/photography/
Brian Sampson, an enthusiastic local gardener, regularly enters and has won the coveted ‘Best In Show’ title on three occasions.
“I love growing vegetables, particularly the large produce –I’ve had success with giant cabbages, marrows, onions and beans,” he says.
“There is a lot of luck involved – you don’t know what the quality of your produce will be like until you dig it up about three weeks before the Show. The event is a good opportunity to get advice from other gardeners, who are always happy to share their tips.”
The deadline to enter all the classes is Monday 7 August – apart from the photography categories, which have an earlier deadline of 5pm on Wednesday 2 August. All the classes are free to enter.
Full details of all the classes and how to enter the Show are available at www.worcestershow.org.uk.
