WORCESTER RUNNERS HIT THE STREETS ON ONE OF THE HOTTEST DAYS THIS YEAR

Hundreds of runners turned out in glorious sunshine to take on the Worcester Full and Half Marathon. 

The popular race – which is now in its seventh year - took place on Sunday, May 20, and followed a course through the beautiful Worcestershire countryside, starting and finishing at Sixways Stadium, near Worcester. 

St Richard’s Hospice was the beneficiary charity for this year’s event - while a number of runners also took on fundraising for the hospice too. 

So far, more than £5,000 has been raised for St Richard's which will help support the free care it provides to patients, their loved ones and bereaved people across Worcestershire.

Alison Parkes, Fundraiser at St Richard's, said: "We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the Worcester Full and Half Marathon - including all the fantastic volunteers.  You were all amazing!" 

The Worcester Full and Half Marathon is organised by Tempo Events and sponsored by Hewett Recruitment.  With their support, St Richard’s has raised more than £45,000 since the race was launched.

The hospice also has one place left for the Great North Run on Sunday 9 September, the world’s biggest half marathon; runners are required to raise a minimum of £750.  Further information is available at https://www.strichards.org.uk/event/great-north-run/.

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative and end of life care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones. Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,000 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

The hospice strives to provide the best medical, practical, emotional and social support they can to help people live life to the fullest, as independently as they can, for as long as they can. They care for people with a range of illnesses including heart failure, Parkinson’s, and motor neurone disease as well as cancer. 

St Richard’s has launched the Build 2020 Appeal which aims to raise the final £1.4m needed to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire.

The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m.
