The road to Wimbledon

The team at Pershore Tennis Centre were represented at Wimbledon last week as members Ginny Lowe and Bradley Smith attended the All England Lawn Tennis Club for the British Tennis Awards on Friday – in which Bradley was nominated as a National Finalist.

The road to Wimbledon began when the Club nominated member Bradley Smith for Wychavon's Sporting Hero in the Community award in March 2017.  Bradley won this award and then went on to have success in the Herefordshire & Worcestershire LTA's Country Award for Young Volunteer of the Year in October 2017. In June 2018 he won the Midlands Tennis Regional Young Volunteer of the Year 2017. And finally, last week at Wimbledon, Bradley joined the other 2 National finalists in the British Tennis' Regional Young Volunteer of the Year 2017.

The National winner was kept within our County and won by Elaine Ball - Volunteer of the Year. In total the Midland Region had 4 finalists and 3 National Winners – Desford TC, Disability Award (Leicestershire) and Helen Buckingham, Outstanding Achievement (Leicestershire) - which is fantastic recognition for the hard work within all of the Midland Counties.

If you are interested in playing tennis locally then please come up and see the team at our award-winning Club - 'Highly Commended' Club of the Year and Coach of the Year and Disability Program of the Year. Or give us a call on 01386 556677. The Club offers membership and class options for all, including individual and family trial memberships from £20; so you can try before you buy! Why not join them and join in?
