Worcester Carnival awarded £5,000 grant by City Council

Worcester City Council has awarded a £5,000 grant to the Worcester Carnival, to help Saturday’s event go with a bang.

The Council’s Leader, Councillor Marc Bayliss, presented the cheque to the organisers of the carnival, which promises to be a big summer hit when it returns to Worcester’s streets on July 7.

Cllr Bayliss said: “Last year’s revival of Worcester Carnival was a massive success, with thousands of people lining the streets to cheer on the parade and enjoying the fun. It’s a pleasure to be able to award this grant to ensure Saturday’s carnival is an even bigger success.”

Christine King, Worcester Carnival Secretary, said: “We’re delighted to receive this grant from the City Council. It will help us to make this year’s carnival a big success once again, entertaining residents and visitors alike, and raising plenty of funds for our nominated charity.”

This year’s Worcester Carnival is based at Pitchcroft and will feature a funfair, street theatre, an RAF flypast and much more.

The parade, with a film and TV theme, will leave Pitchcroft at 3pm, with the Carnival Queen and her attendants leading floats and entertainment through the city centre.

There will also be entertainment at the community stage in Cathedral Square.

This year’s carnival is raising funds for Worcester Play Council.
