New state-of-the-art play area opens in Wychbold

A new state-of-the-art play area has been opened in Wychbold as part of an improvement project led by Dodderhill Parish Council in conjunction with Wychavon District Council.

The play facility, located opposite Wychbold Village Hall, was officially opened during a ribbon cutting ceremony on 30 July by representatives from the two councils, along with children from local families.

The opening, which marks phase one of the Playing Fields Improvement project in the area, comes after four years of planning by Dodderhill Parish Council to utilise available Section 106 funding from the district council.

The next phase of the project is to install a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) adjacent to the play area and convert the existing MUGA into a small games area, initially for Table Tennis and French Boules. It is hoped that this work will commence September 2018.

The parish council is planning further projects, including woodland and nature activities for all ages, upgrades to the village hall facilities and improving the ball games playing area. Subject to funding, the car parking facilities will also be improved and an additional footpath will be installed around part of the site.

 Cllr Alyson Keane, Chairperson of Dodderhill Parish Council, said: “We are so thankful to receive this funding which has allowed us to open a new and improved play facility for the community to enjoy. Dodderhill has an exciting future and it is hoped that everyone will enjoy the new facilities being provided.”

 Cllr Hugh Hamilton, for Dodderhill Ward, at Wychavon District Council, said: “It is great to see families enjoying the play area and making use of the new facilities. This is just the beginning of many improvements in the area and we will continue to listen to the needs of the residents to provide an enjoyable environment for all.”
