Worcester born Masterchef finalist to cook in the city
One of Worcestershire’s leading independent schools will welcome a very special guest to a one-off event later this month.
The River School in Worcester will welcome former pupil and a 2017 MasterChef Australia finalist Arum Nixon for a culinary evening on Thursday 27 September.
The event – which is being held at Churchfields Farm in Droitwich from 7.00pm – will also include live classical music and an auction. Arum will also spill the beans on some of his pantry essentials.
During the event, Arum will be making two dishes inspired by those who made on MasterChef, including a porcini ice cream which helped to springboard him into finals week on the show.
The evening will commence with drinks and canapes followed by a welcome and introduction by Arum; he will then create his signature ice cream dishes. There will be an opportunity for a question and answers session before enjoying Arum’s dishes. All those attending will receive free recipe cards.

Arum, aged 35, was brought up in Claines in Worcester, graduating from The River School in 1998. He then went on to study Geography at Oxford University. A gap year in Nigeria working for the Department of International Development gave him a unique appreciation of food; he regularly dined on dishes including goat heads curry with eyeballs. Arum returned to London at the age of 22 and began his career in marketing. In 2011 he moved down under – with his partner Fiona – settling in Sydney, where they live today.
Arum came 5th in MasterChef Australia, the largest cooking show in the world, shown in more than 130 countries.

As with everyone, my upbringing helped shape the person I am now.”
Following the event, Churchfields and Arum will enter into a collaborative partnership, selling their ice cream in Arum’s unusual flavours.
The River School, a Christian, co-educational independent day school for pupils and young people aged 2 to 16 years was opened in 1985 and is situated along the Droitwich Road in Worcester. The school occupies a large Georgian Grade II listed building with outbuildings, set in 8 acres, encompassing both woodland and open grass.
The River School provides the most economical private education for senior school aged pupils within Worcestershire.
