Popular Couch to 5k programme comes to Upton-upon-Severn

Residents from Upton-upon-Severn are being encouraged to lace up their running shoes and get active with a new ‘Couch to 5k’ programme.

The fun and informal running group is aimed at complete beginners of all ages and will be held at Upton Riverboats Children's Centre from 25 September at 10 to 11am.

There will also be another course starting from 13 September at Malvern Town Football Club at 10am to 11am.

At a cost of £20 per person, the 10 to 12 week programmes have been set up by Malvern Hills District Council with the aim of encouraging residents to lead a healthier lifestyle by building confidence and stamina, as well as helping to lose weight and meet new friends.

Participants will run together every week with the support of group leaders and will be asked to complete two homework runs.

By the end of the 12 weeks, participants will be able to successfully run their first Park Run together and will receive a well-earned medal at the finish line.

Couch to 5k is a national running programme designed to get people off the couch to gradually work up to running five kilometres in just 12 weeks.

Rachel Vann, Physical Activity and Well-being Officer for Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Our successful Couch to 5k programme is a great chance for people who might not have done any running before to build confidence and improve their health in a social and supportive environment.”

There are only 12 places available for each course with a minimum number of eight people for the course to run.  Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
