Devilish Doctor Faustus returns to Malvern Theatres this Autumn

A brand-new production of Doctor Faustus will take centre stage at Malvern Theatres this Autumn (22nd – 26th September) as part of its first season following the pandemic shutdown.

RADA’s Roma Farnell, originally from Malvern, has expertly adapted the demonic drama to create an atmospheric and unsettling one-man show.

This dark and devilish adaptation dives into the internal conflict and struggles of Faustus as chases the insatiable desire of infinite knowledge. The corrupting influence of power and the idea of sin, redemption and damnation all remain as integral to the plot as when the play was first performed in 1592.

This Mike Wilson Productions show, starring GSA’s Harry Boaz, was scheduled to take residency at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year and followed by a national tour. As the worldwide pandemic shut down all live entertainment, the company was forced to make the difficult decision to postpone all performances indefinitely.

Mike Wilson, Producer and Company Director, said: “We are delighted to be part of Malvern Theatres’ reopening season this month. Creatives and audiences alike are desperate to return and enjoy live theatre once again, and we are thrilled to be at the forefront with our bold re-imagining of Christopher Marlowe’s masterpiece.

“We are incredibly grateful to the team at Malvern for inviting us to perform on the iconic Festival Theatre stage and hope that by doing so, we can give confidence to our friends and colleagues across the industry as they make plans to return themselves.”

Greed, corruption, and damnation are rampant in this brooding Elizabethan play. Repentance plagues a haunted Faustus when he strikes a deal with Lucifer; 24 years of power and knowledge in return for his tormented soul.

With COVID-19 social distancing in place, limited tickets are now on sale for performances between 22nd – 26th September 2020 at Malvern Theatres. For more information or book tickets go to malvern-theatres.co.uk.

Rescheduled dates for the 2021 UK tour will be announced in due course.
