Can you do better than Trucky McTruck-Face? We think you can We’ve ordered 15 new trucks for Wychavon - can you help us name them all?
Wychavon District Council and its waste and recycling collections partner FCC Environment have ordered fifteen brand spanking new waste and recycling trucks which will take to the roads in October of this year and we want all the residents in the district to get involved and help us to name them.
The fifteen state-of-the art trucks will be working hard for years to come collecting, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, food cans, drinks cans, cartons, and much, much more and we would love to hear from all members of our community with ideas for names.
So get your creative juices flowing and come up with inspired names for our trucks and the fifteen best responses, as selected by our panel of experts, will feature on the side of the trucks for years to come.

Emma Stokes, portfolio holder for environment and street scene at Wychavon said “We’re really pleased to be getting new state-of-the-art vehicles in the district, which are more environmentally friendly and efficient. This saves us money and protects the environment. The naming competition is also a fun way for residents to welcome them to Wychavon. I can’t wait to see the ideas – please do get funny and creative!”
All entries must be less than 25 characters, we ask that all residents “keep it clean” and we need your ideas by 5pm on 14 September. Entries can be posted on the relevant Wychavon social media posts on Facebook, twitter and Instagram or emailed to communications@wychavon.gov.uk
The trucks will take to the roads in October as part of an up-grade to recycling services in the district to enable all residents to recycle more than ever before from home including the addition of batteries, small electrical items (like hairdryers) and electronic waste items and lower grade textiles that are not good enough to go to the charity shop for re-sale.
The trucks themselves are also state-of-the-art, power by the latest euro 6 standard engines which are cleaner and produce lower emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and fine particles, 80% lower levels of the NOx over the old truck and half the level of fine particles.
In addition, the bin lifter at the rear of the vehicles is electric making them quieter and as they don’t rely of power directly from the engine, fuel consumption is reduced overall, of to up to 14% according to the manufacturer.
FCC Environment Regional Director Steve Longdon said “We are delighted to be working with a forward looking council keen to invest in an efficient fleet of recycling vehicles to save tax payer cash in the long term and I am looking forward to seeing what names residents come up with. I know I have my thinking cap on!”
Also in a move to make the service more efficient, the collection day for some residents will be changing, but we will ensure that everyone who is affected will be told in advance and will be reminded about when their new collection day is. The frequency of collection will remain the same.
