Hundreds visit Wychavon for free family events

Hundreds of people flocked to Wychavon’s parks over July and August to enjoy a series of free, fun-filled workshops and shows for all the family.

Juggling, plate-spinning, puppet shows and more was on offer at Evesham’s Abbey Park, Pershore’s Abbey Park and Droitwich Lido Park one day a week from 31 July to 28 August.

Puppet shows featuring Punch and Judy, a mechanical organ, street marionettes and

balloon modelling were held throughout the day to an audience of 320 people at Droitwich on 8 August, 260 at Evesham on 31 July and 150 at Pershore on 1 August.

There was feather balancing, low stilts and plate spinning to fun bikes, juggling and low tightrope, and children had the chance to learn something new whilst having fun at the Community Circus Skills Workshops. Special guest, the Great Raymondo, also showcased his skills in a magic show.

On 14 August at Evesham, up to 300 visited throughout the day, on 21 August in Pershore there was 100 and on 28 August in Droitwich, there was also 100.

Cllr Emma Stokes, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Street Scene at Wychavon District Council, said: “We have had a fantastic response to our family fun days, with many people taking part.

“The circus workshops and the puppet shows have been a perfect way to make sure children are having fun and learning something new at the same time. We hope to run similar free events next year.”
