The total raised by The Buoys is now over £100,000 and continues to rise.
They did it! Finally, after 40 days 16 hours and 20 minutes of rowing their small boat Pegasus, the Worcester Buoys made it to the far side of The Atlantic. They arrived in Antigua in the early hours of last Tuesday morning on 23rd January and were met by a large group of family and friends amidst much celebration and no small amount of relief!
The challenge was to row 3,000 miles across The Atlantic from La Gomera to Antigua. For good reason the race is called the World’s Toughest Row. They wanted to do this for Acorns Children’s Hospice and raise £100,000 in order to help Acorns carry on with the outstanding work they do in providing specialist care for very sick children across the West Midlands. Their drive was for the memory of their friend and neighbour Jack Dyer and his family, who were supported by Acorns.
GreenThumb Worcester has been privileged to sponsor George and Matt, two local “Worcester Buoys”, in their herculean quest. We take our hat off to the Buoys’ parents, Mark & Sue, Kate & Gordon, who have been unfailingly supportive and who can now relax a little for the first time in a month and a half! We also thank the many GreenThumb customers, friends and colleagues for their support and for the many donations they have provided.
The total raised by The Buoys is now over £100,000 and continues to rise.
