Worcester Buoys Now Half Way! Rowing The Atlantic For Acorns

I am thrilled to report that last Thursday at 1600 hours the Worcester Buoys passed the half way point in their quest to row The Atlantic and raise £100,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Their challenge in the World’s Toughest Row started on 13th December. This year’s Atlantic storms have been stronger and more frequent than expected, 8 metre seas and the threat of being blown too far North have added to the challenge. Their current estimated finish date is 27th January. It’s a long time in a small boat on a big sea with a “2 hours on the oars, 2 hours off the oars” regime!

GreenThumb Worcester is proud to sponsor George and Matt, two local “Worcester Buoys”. We support them in their challenge to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic and raise funds for Acorns.

Acorns Children’s Hospice provide specialist care for children across the West Midlands who have life limiting and life threatening conditions. Care is offered from their three hospices in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, and in the community. The care they provide is hugely rewarding, valuable and expensive! Worcester Buoys aim to raise £100,000 for Acorns.

As a small support to the Buoys and their efforts a group of GreenThumb Worcester friends, family, customers and colleagues ran a “Half Marathon for Half Way” yesterday. There were distances of Half Marathon, 10km and 5km, all started at Watersedge in Worcestershire and finished at Watersedge with a bracing open water swim (for those who wanted to!).

Thank you to everyone who has donated, who ran or swam and to everyone who is interested in the Buoys challenge and in Acorns. To carry on with the “Half Way” theme the Buoys are also just over half way to their £100,000 target. Great news!
